Robert was Sergeant in the 1/8th Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders and Malcolm was Lance Corporal of 7th Argyll’s.  They were brothers, sons of John and Isabella McLean,  John was a Ploughman.   

 Robert was born in Kilfinan in 1887 and Elizabeth and Margaret also born there.  The family had moved to Cairndow by 1894 and further five children, all born Kilmorich, including Malcolm.  In 1901 Census they are living at Clachanbeg and in 1911 Achadunan.

 Robert is listed as a Postman in 1901 and Malcolm a 13yrs old Scholar.

Robert was killed in action in 1916, his effects were sent to his father at Drishaig Cottage, Cairndow. 

Malcolm died in 1918, his parents were now living at Cherry Park, Inveraray.
