Memories of playing football in Cairndow by Donald Muir
Great memories of playing for the boy’s football team home and away against Inveraray, Strachur, Lochgoilhead and Arrochar – some of the Beattie boys would have been in the team as well! Remember the terrible midges at Lochgoilhead and Arrochar and we played some matches over at Clachan and a few at a field along from Ardkinglas House close to where I think your folks (Beatties) used to live – near the edge of Loch Fyne. My mum used to give us all oranges at half-time! My dad also used to enter us into Five-a-Side Football Competitions around the area. We played and got to the final of the indoors tournament in Dunoon – we won the competition in Lochgilphead (still got the medal) – and got to the final of the champion of champions tournament (outdoors) again in Dunoon. Quite successful for a wee village team.

- Came across the old goalkeepers jersey from Cairndow Boys Football Team back in 1966 or thereabouts – bought from Alexander & Sons, Paisley along with 10 maroon outfield tops! My dad used to run the team and pile 11 kids into two cars to go to away games – happy days!
Played in that team remember the maroon strips we played at Rhumhor Above the fish farm the Goodalls from Butterbridge also played .
Donald Muir senior ran the team remember happy days going to all the matches we used the strips for the Ardkinglas six a side junior shinty team at Clachan as well .
Think the colours came from the Old Ardkinglas Rangers Shinty from Cairndow.
